WORD OF WISDOM
When brother Joseph received the revelation
That we all know now as the Word of Wisdom,
There were no tests to prove that he was right,
He knew that they were wrong in the Lord’s sight.

No alcohol or tobacco, drink neither tea nor coffee,
Of these things our bodies should be always free,
Caffein, tannic acid, or cancer causing smoke,
Or even addiction would have sounded like a joke.

To eat a sensible diet and eat things in due season
May have made sense for that had rhyme and reason,
But the early Saints listened and willingly did obey,
Yet to us it should make perfect sense in every way.

But knowing these things are harmful should not be
The reason for obedience, at least it isn’t for me.
Strict obedience to the little things will make us strong,
If we adhere to His laws we will be spiritually strong.

Keeping the word of wisdom can help us every day
To hear the promptings of the Spirit along life’s way,
We can call upon the priesthood power without fear
For as we live this commandment God is always near.

Life will be worth living, for we have chosen the right,
It will give us strength to always fight the good fight,
We will not be weary in well doing, He will be our stay
If we always keep the Word of Wisdom to our dying day.
