AND THE COCK CREW
Peter loved the Master, thought he had no fear,
Yet the Saviour knew that when danger drew near
That Peters courage would fail, a lesson to learn,
So he would know how for forgiveness to yearn.
Thou wilt deny me thrice before the night is through
But Peter vowed that he would be constant and true,
Ye will say ye know me not before the cock doth crow,
Im sure the Saviours great love in His eyes did show.
I wonder how Peter felt when the cock spoke that morn,
Miserable, retched, so unworthy, all alone and forlorn,
Could he face the others and tell what he had done?
Denied the Master, now all was lost and over and gone.
The guilt must have been like a millstone around his heart,
He had been chosen as the leader, and he did not do his part.
But then the joy when he must have felt on that great day
When the tomb was empty and the stone all rolled away.
Then seeing the Saviours arms outstretched in pure love,
Feeling of the forgiveness for him, ready for heaven above,
Now Peter would never falter, but was even willing to die
He knew the freedom from earth stains, how they pass away.
We can all feel the love and forgiveness and that love divine
That can fill every heart with warmth, even yours and mine,
Think for a moment of that great sacrifice for the sins of all
And how we should love our Saviour who saved us from the fall.
