Under the stars
and an almost moonless sky
our circle of eighteen sits,
making disclosures and memories
over Gilbey's and Island Lime.
We talk about what we would
always and never do.
"I will always love myself,"
one says out loud, to the night sky.
"I will never put
my heart over my head," says another.
"I will always love those
who love me back," says one more,
following suit. We all do.
"I will never say never again."
"I will always love her."
"I will never drink like this again."
And so we'll sit here until
the drink runs out,
savoring the moments
as they pass us by
because we might not
be together like this
for a long, long time.
