f i n i t o

The conclusion
of the beginning of the end
has finally caught up with us.
There really is nothing left,
only an imperceptible indifference
and a silence which permeates all,
even the spaces in between.
There is nothing more to say
as you disappear into a hazy mist
before my very eyes.
You reach out and touch my arm,
a gesture too little made too late,
puzzling me, but barely moving me.
A new forgetfulness enters my system;
I have forgotten your name.
There are many regrets but no apologies
and I have learned to become ruthless.
I will not be around
to catch you if you fall.

What is your name?

This is my happy ending.
This is my new beginning.
