Where shall we begin? The best way is to learn the words for a few things and persons and then make simple sentences out of them. Such words are called nouns. A noun is a place, person, or thing (to learn more about nouns click on the word noun). We shall make sentences by attaching some other words to the nouns, such as articles, verbs, and adjectives.
Article ("The" and "A"):
To start with, we shall make a simple sentence by linking the
article to the noun. The Kapampangan word for the definite article 'the'
is 'ing' and for the indefinite article 'a' we simply use
the word for the number 'one', which is 'metung'. We express these
as follows:
Adjectives and Verbs:
Words such as "big", "old" and yellow", which tell us what a person or thing is like, are called adjectives. It is very easy to link adjectives and nouns in Kapampangan because adjectives do not have to "agree" with their nouns as they do in other languages such as Spanish. To link the adjective to the noun we also need to use another word called a verb. A verb is a word that indicates action or status. In the following sentences we shall use the verb "is".
So we can say:
Please note that there is a big difference between English
and Kapampangan syntax. In English we usually start a sentence with the
noun but in Kapampangan we start with the adjective.
