Bro PEJ Jardine / Bro Tubby Clayton Connection

Bro Lt Peter EJ Jardine was the last ADC of Bro the Rev Tubbie Clayton CH MC DD MA FAS, who was the famous army chaplain of WWI and WW2 and was the founder of the Toc H movement. One of Peter's duties was to walk a special Royal Dog, Chippie Mk4 (cairn terrier) around the moat of The Tower of London. The first Chippie Mk1 was a personal gift to Tubby from Queen Mary, sonsequently all other Chippies came from the Royal Kennels.

In memory of Bro the Rev Tubby, Peter as assistant scuptor to the great British sculptor, Cecil Thomas OBE FRBS, who offered to scupt the full effigies of Tubby and Chippie. Cecilalso designed and modelled the Corronation medal, they Malay, Borneo and Vietnam campaign medals.

Four Bronze Chippies have been presented by Peter in the following order to:

  • Geelong Grammar School, where Peter was a school master for 33 years. This was to mark the 100th year, the birth of Tubby and Cecil. Prince Charles attended Geelong Grammar's Timbertop in the rough mountains of Victoria in 1965.
  • the town of Marysville in Queensland, where Tubbie was born in 1885.
  • the City of Dunedin, New Zealand, to mark the last work and sculpture of Cecil and the 50th birthday of Prince Charles 14 Nov 98. Cecil sculpted the famous Peter Pan and the Wendy Group ' Learning to Fly', resting in Dunedin.
  • the City of Adelaide, to mark the 75th Anniversary of the Toc H movement in South Australia.
