Contrary to Misinformation Canada is Not a Republic

The Royal Military College of Canada sustains its Connections to the British Empire

The founder and first commandant of RMC Duntroon was an ex-Cadet of RMC of Canada

Just like Australia, Canada has a governor general

The Canadian Military retains a strong connection with the Monarchy For example, The Queen is the Colonel in Chief of Toronto's 48th Highlanders

and The Queen is the Colonel in Chief of Canadian Sappers etc etc (and Australian Sappers)

In 2002 the Canadian Government issued 46,000 Golden Jubilee Medals
to Citizens of Canada in commemoration of Her Majesty's 50th anniversary of ascension to the throne. These were inscribed with 'Queen of Canada' and 'Reine du Canada'. Republican sentiment in the Australian electorate led the Australian government to not offer a similar recognition to deserving Australian Citizens, but in 1977 the Australian Government did join with Canada in issuing the Silver Jubilee Medal.

The people's will cannot be denied. Nor can their collective stupidity...

Read about some myths you have been told. And read about the absolute disinformation that was put forth in an emotion laced speech to the Australian people.

As John Brumby's uncle tells me (with a smile), 'I am a Republican; a ROYAL republican'. Indeed, Australians are ROYAL Republicans. We all have the democratice freedom to voice our opinion.

Accept and Live with Globalisation ...
but political stability is perhaps worth retaining.

Monarchists who Favour Direct Elected President are Republicans
Monarchists should realise that they have an obligation to be loyal to their Sovereign and any steps to select an alternate person would be treason. Perhaps those with genuine grievances to resolve may be entitled to confront a tyrant. However, in Australia we are most fortunate Subjects of a Monarch who is second to none; we have no justification to take seditious steps. Republicans will carry on as they are inclined to – the cause they pursue is one of subversion and their betrayal is to be expected. If Australian demographics change to the extent that there is a predominance of republicans then we no longer deserve the Queen of Australia as head of state. Rather, we would deserve whatever hype-monger we periodically select from would have become our fickle midst.

Create confusion -> instability -> change is easy
"The first step to creating a new set of social beliefs is to create a confusion of beliefs....So, when faced with confusion, we normally believe what we want to believe... The hooks in the public mind are scientifically set". Alan Gourley

Republicanism is Simply a Cult Driven by Mass Media
The republican movement has laced its arguments quite cleverly with coercive persuasion (brainwashing). I base this theory on the correlation between those groups who are susceptible to known cults and those groups that are largely republican (same groups - same victims). Many Australians have been denied a great deal of richness in their lives because of the anti-monarchy tendencies that are creeping into Australian society. Those enthusiastic for an Australian republic who might one day successfully complete any sort of anti-cult deprogramming - for whatever reason - will realise the emptiness they have created in their lives as a result of denuding themselves of a Constitutional Monarchy. Dare to be a free thinker and take an alternative view.

More on subverting culture

Read about the damage that could be done to Australia if it were to become a republic (click on Republic Issue). I accept this may be wrong, but my belief is that it is a real threat.

Let me remind you, Australia's stability is founded on its history. Why do people around the world aspire to live in Australia? What is it about this place that attracts them? Australians are subjects of a sovereign. Subjects are more than citizens. Citizens accept their place in a homogenous slurry of opinion. In a modern consitutional monarchy, subjects are individuals. Unlike the great republics of the world, the system of consitutional monarchy has evolved since the 1700s, when the republican system was born. Republican heads of state have far more real power than our sovereign and what is more, they impose their power in many ways. Australians are uniquely free - far more so than many understand.

But I suppose we could rewrite history and have no history. What would this lead to?

Republican's want to strip out society and leave us to find our own alternative, but our these fantasies really what is best for us?

If you question anything, question the motives of republicans
Sure, there are plenty of things to question about society and government. Egalitarianism is a worthy cause, but all systems of government have hierarchies and some people end up in better situations than others. Here is some propaganda:

  • Australians for Constitutional Monarchy
  • The Monarchist League of Canada
  • Australian Republic Movement

    Reprehensible Tactics of Republicans
As with all other forms of mind control, the most reprehensible tactic of republican extremists is to recast every challenge to their orthodoxy as a battle between Good and Evil. If you try to debate their perception of reality, they accuse you of one Evil from their inventory of Evils that can be drawn upon as convenient. That in itself is evil; sorry, I did not mean to fall into that pattern of behaviour!

    Consider these actual comments:

Comments of two Australian Army majors

Pro-Monarchist - able to engage in debate
Being a monarchist is about supporting and defending our constitutional democracy, our heritage, our rule of law, and keeping the executive element of our government out of the hands of self-seekers and ideologues. (I accept that there is an element of scare-mongering here.)

Anti-Monarchist - wants to stop debate
It's one thing to forward information .... it's another to breach ... protocol and pursue political topics in any context. I take exception to what you have written ... as a glib dismissal of a legitimate alternative political view, and dis-respectful of other people's personal views about the Monarchy and an Australian Republic. I have very strong views on this subject but have only ever stated them once ... when directly asked why I do not sing God Save the Queen. Lionel, you are a good bloke ... I am fond of you and I know you mean no harm or dis-respect but you are exceeding due bounds when you write this stuff and I have to ask you not to - at least, not to me.

Why? I have no idea, but I think ...
Canada exists as an alternative to the USA. If it were to become a republic, there would be no sensible reason for it to continue as a separate entity. Australia seems to hunger with uncontrolable lust for anything American. Empty lives are victims to illogical desires.

    I think it has Passed
I would suggest that denuding the Australian identity of the monarchy would leave a great void in Australia. To be filled by what? This argument has nothing to do with neither the ideology of Labor nor Liberal. No. It is motivated by a passing anarchy that has seen its popularity peak with the grand anarchist himself Paul Keating; that the Costello brothers have jumped on the bandwagon suggests that it is even beyond mainstream and well into decline.
Australians have already moved on to the next fanciful distraction. Thanks to the efforts of Steven Mayne and crikey.com.au many republicans find themselves exposed as being in positions of conflict of interest (which high profile republican did Steven Mayne force off a corporate board by threatening to expose his conflicts of interest?). What sort of creep would end up as an elected head of state - the republics of the world offer many examples? Anyway, dumping the monarchy is now passé and boring. It appears that we won - but I do not want to be complacent.

But Why Were Australians so Enthusiastic for a Republic?
It has something to do with long term brain washing by a teaching system skewed towards anarchy and dysfunction. From an early age, Australians have been trained to reject their head of state in favour of an empty collective spirit. With the decline of communism, the world now knows such fanciful ambitions do not work. The great social reformer Robert Owen was successful not because he was a communist; communists who attempted to copy his model invariably failed. Why? They misunderstood his system - Owen remained a benevolent sovereign. A republic - large nor small - will never produce a benevolent sovereign, it will only attract ignoble opportunists and the worst kind of politicians. The republican cult of our former prime minister - whose often referred to Australia as a banana republic (what sort of perverse ambition is that!?!) - is in a state of decline. Australians should beware or electing another tyrant who is skewed towards dysfunction and anarchy.

Regardless - I commit to be loyal to a democratic change
Success of any society depends on its citizens being loyal. If a change in our consitution is achieved through democratic means, we must accept the result. However, democratic process requires freedom to function; and I wonder how free the average Australian and Canadian is from the influence of biased broadcasts.

    God Save the Queen

    We want to keep monarchy
    Graham Fraser
    NATIONAL AFFAIRS WRITER

OTTAWA — The monarchy may be tired, regressive, outdated and irrelevant for many Canadians — but it's ours.

Canadians don't know much about it — only 5 per cent of those polled know that Queen Elizabeth II is Canada's head of state — but the desire to abolish the monarchy has dropped dramatically since 1994, and only a minority of Canadians want to give it up.

EKOS Research Associates found that this contradiction is at the heart of Canadians' perceptions of the monarchy.

A clear majority — 55 per cent — agreed with the statement: "The monarchy is one of those important things that provides Canadians with an unique identity separate from the U.S."

    Only 31 per cent disagreed.

But an almost equal proportion — 52 per cent — agreed with the statement: "The monarchy is an outdated and regressive institution that has no real relevance to most Canadians today;" 33 per cent disagreed.

According to Frank Graves, of the research group, 25 per cent of those polled agreed with both positions.

But Canadians don't know much about Canada's constitutional monarchy.

Of those asked: "Who is the head of the State in Canada?" 69 per cent replied the Prime Minister; 9 per cent said the Governor-General, and only 5 per cent knew the answer — the Queen.

When asked which term best describe the monarchy and the royal family, 35 per cent answered "boring," 52 per cent "interesting," 44 per cent "irrelevant," 46 per cent "relevant," 22 per cent "vibrant," and 59 per cent "tired."

The poll was based on 1,217 interviews conducted between May 27 and May 29, resulting in a margin of error plus or minus 2.8 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.

From the Toronto Star newspaper on 6 Feb 2002

    Elizabeth of Canada

    Yes, she's ours.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom, Canada and Her other Realms and Territories Queen, has been on the job, as she puts it, for 50 years today. And Canadians couldn't have wished for a more dedicated, duty-driven monarch to serve as symbolic head of our family.

Our Golden Jubilee congratulations go out to her.

The young Elizabeth who acceded to the throne on Feb. 6, 1952, would not know Canada today, so much have we changed. Then we were a people steeped in British history, attitudes, family ties and tradition.

Today, we reach for calamari, dim sum and dal, as soon as fish-and-chips. Elizabeth has seen nine Canadian prime ministers come and eight go: Louis St. Laurent, John Diefenbaker, Lester Pearson, Pierre Trudeau, Joe Clark, John Turner, Brian Mulroney, Kim Campbell. She may yet outlast Jean Chrétien.

She will be forever the Monarch who in 1982 signed the documents bringing home to Canada the Constitution, then known as the British North America Act of 1867.

That day Canadians held true to an ancient, unbroken political and legal heritage, even as we affirmed that no British law would bind us, ever again.

On royal trips Elizabeth, now 75, has shown herself to be a shrewd and gracious figure. She has won over Canadians with her devotion to the Commonwealth, her fondness for this country and her humour. Her face still lights up for excited children. They must be a welcome break from tedious protocol and fawning courtiers.

She will be remembered, too, for coping gracefully as Charles and the rest of the dysfunctional Windsors, upstaged by Diana in a TV age, went through messy divorces, made fools of themselves and let her down.

In good years and bad, Elizabeth has been a symbol of unity and an exemplar of duty. If the monarchy has lost some of its gilded magic during her long reign, the fault is not hers. If fewer Canadians today profess a deep attachment to it, the change has been in us, not her.

She commands our respect, and deserves our good wishes.

God save the Queen of Canada.

    The republic debate is a luxurious distraction;
it would be better if people did something productive
