There is meaning in a cookie
In the chaos of its shape
In the taste of the chocolate
Of the cookie I just ate
Only... I guess I can't remember
How the cookie had its taste
On that cold December morning
Or the look upon her face
When I knew that it was over
And that time had run its pace
But the thing that really scares me
Is the pain I know I've caused
In the heartbeat of the person
That I think I might have lost
We hadn't much in common
I remember, plain and sure
At the time, we needed love
Our hearts were clear and pure
Now, I do not know my thoughts
(I'm addicted to her strength)
But it seems that we are parting
(She's told me this at length)
So now I think about it
Of the times that we have had
Thinking makes me see
That I think we both are glad
That there's meaning in a cookie
In the chaos of its shape
In the taste of the chocolate
Of the cookie I just ate...
