2000 International Day deemed a success

The 15th annual International Day celebration was held in in the Ben L. Smith auditorium, Thursday March 9,2000. International Day has been a tradition at Smith High School, for over 15 years now. It is a day when the students come together to celebrate the cultral diversity, present at Smith. It is expressed through a elaborate show that involves colorful flags, traditional dress, music and dancing.

Over 1100 students watched as more than 13 groups of Smith students performed a native dance from their nationality or ancestry. Ben L. Smith's orchestra, vocal ensemble and drumline - Steel Groove, were also included in the International Day festivites.

This years theme was "A Millennium of Miracles". "We chose our theme because we want to focus on miracles from the past, as well as, for the new millinnium the be filled with miracles for the future of our world", said International Club President, Danielle Kouakou (KU-ah-Koo) "Our theme song was "When you believe" from the Prince of Egypt soundtrack, said Kouakou, "It asks the question, "Who knows what miracles you can achieve when you believe?"
