This is kind of neat. I had my Junior High art students do a project that deals with symmetry. Symmetry means when two sides of something are similar in either shape, color or size. They had to create a design that was symmetrical. They drew one half of the design on a folded piece of paper. Then they traced the opposite side holding the folded piece of paper against a window. They had no idea what the design would look like until after they unfolded it. Look at one of the designs below:
This is Bryan Ferguson's design.
When we looked at it, we saw a face. Can
you see it? It looks like it's wearing some sort of mask. But the real
neat thing was................
......when we turned it over......
......we saw a second face! This one, stranger than
the first. With one eye and its mouth slightly open showing its fangs.
Again, Bryan had no idea what his design was going to look like when
he was designing it. You just never know what cool things might happen when
you draw or paint a picture.
This trivia question #3 deals with this painting
on the left. It was used by one of the big car companies as a basis
for a TV commercial. The first student to correctly guess the artist's
first and last name and
email me the answer, spelled
correctly, will get his/her name posted on the
Trivia Hall of
Fame.
