Hot Seat
by Irene Majava, CTM
Vice President Education
Have you been assigned the function of "Hot Seat"? What does that mean? What are you really responsible for in that position? Simply defined, the person assigned "Hot Seat" duty arrives at the meeting prepared to fill any function for absent members who planned on being present, but at the last minute were unable to make it. "Planned absences" are to be filled by members other than the one assigned to serve as the "Hot Seat" functionary as soon as he/she knows he/she cannot meet the commitment on the schedule. If you have questions regarding the "hot seat" function---call me. The "Hot Seat" helps all members by scheduling an opportunity to deliver a manual speech in an "impromptu" situation, as well as possibly serving as the Toastmaster, the General Evaluator, or leading Table Topics. In this way all our speakers can gain opportunities to speak more often due to unexpected absences. At the same time, by using prepared manual speeches in such impromptu occasions, we will be achieving Toastmasters International Distinguished Club Program criteria.
