My glorious moment in golf
An icebreaker by new member
Mary Terrazas

I am an avid golfer. I golf every chance I get.

What do I like the most about golfing?

One. When I am on the golf course, I am in touch with nature, the ground, the trees and the sky. It puts me in the present sense of the world around me and gives me a calming, relaxing feeling.

Two. This sense of well being adds balance to my life. I forget about everything else. I work in an office 8 hours a day in front of a computerÑ and when I am on the golf course I'm in a different world

Three. I love the excitement of competition. It is exhilarating. I have something to prove to myselfÑthat I can do it, and that I have the skills to do my best.

Four. I have something common with Jack Nicholas, Greg Norman, and Tiger Woods––a once in a life time golfer's dream.

On November 16, 1996, on the 16th hole of the El Caro Golf Course, during the Lady's Club Championship, I hit the most incredible shot of my life with my 7 iron for 99 yards to the green––a hole in one.  It was my moment of golfing glory and I was presented a MasterCard Home-in-One Award.

Congratulations Mary! Your first speech at Valley Toastmasters was a "hole in one" for an icebreaker.
