Austrian-born philosopher (who lived most of his life in the UK)
I've been interested in this bloke for about three years now, since I had to do some research on his work for a course I was teaching.
I already had an interest in interpersonal communication, but Wittgenstein's work on epistemology really caused me to review my ideas on thought, language, learning and (consequently) teaching. It was really the concept of Forms of Life (originated in the book "Philosophical Investigations") that got me interested; how the meaning someone holds for a word differs according to the life they lead, the person they are, their emotional, psychological and practical background... and how we depend so much on each other for any meaning at all. This interdependence was stimulating idea, and has led to continuous interest in Wittgenstein's work since. My BA Hons dissertation was stimulated by these areas (a copy is available for perusal HERE if you're really bored sometime!).
For those who are keen, the link below allows a download of the complete text of W's early masterwork, The Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus. This is in ASCII text format ---
Meanwhile, the following are some interesting links on Wittgenstein, collected during trawls for research material:
Ludwig Wittgenstein (Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy)
The Wittgenstein Archives at the University of Bergen
Ludwig Wittgenstein (1889-1951)
Ludwig Wittgenstein (1889-1951)
Has anyone come up with any better resources? Or have the above have gone 'dead'?
