Oprowon Lumgalm - Solution
by
Erik Oosterwal
This cryptogram puzzle was based loosely on the Soundex algorithm for sorting
and storing names by using phonetics. Without getting into too much
detail about the algorithm, the gist of it is that it's a way of converting
letters which sound similar, like b, v, and f, to numbers, then storing those
numbers as the representation of a person's name.
By replacing the letters in the original quote with letters that fall under
the same Soundex category, the resulting cryptogram looks like it could be
real words in a foreign language. In reality, once the letters are
decrypted, the message reads:
Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent
a new nation conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all
men are created equal. Abraham Lincoln.
