The Butterfly

A man found a cocoon with a small hole in it.  He sat and watched for several hours as a butterfly struggled to force its body out of the small hole.  Then, it seamed that the butterfly had stopped making progress and the butterfly could go no farther.

He took his pocket knife and carefully cut the cocoon open.  The butter fly emerged easily.  But he had a swollen body and shriveled wings.  The man watched the butterfly, he expected the wings would enlarge to support the body in time.

It never happened!  The butterfly spent the rest of it's life crawling around with a swollen body and shriveled wings.  It was never able to fly!

What the man, in his attempted kindness, didn't understand was the the restricted cocoon and the struggle for the butterfly to get out though the tiny opening forced the fluids from the body into the wings so that the butterfly was ready to fly when it was free from the cocoon.

Sometimes struggle is exactly what we need in our lives.  If we went though life without any obstacles, it would cripple us.  We would never grow to be strong.  Like the butterfly, we would never be able to fly.
