He would get a picture of the members and paint the mural. When he was done, he would show the work to the Grand Poobah so he could collect his money.
The Grand Poobah would looking the painting over. He would always have to make an improvement. After all, what good is a Grand Poobah if he can’t improve things for his lodge.
Sometimes, it would be something minor. “Joe doesn’t look quite right.” But other times, it would be something major. “Everyone should be looking left instead of to the right.”
In the latter case, the painter would be stuck redoing the entire painting.
Then he came up with an idea. After he completed the painting, he would add a second nose to one of the members.
The Grand Poobah would inspect the painting and say, “Joe has two noses!”
The painter would reply, “Oh my gosh! I’m glad you caught that. If you hadn’t of caught that, it would have ruined my reputation.”
The Grand Poobah was happy to have helped. The painter painted out the extra nose, waited awhile and showed the painting to the Grand Poobah again. The Grand Poobah happily paid him now.
