Do You Need to be Butt Snapped?

When fighters were slower and the pilot got into trouble he pull the ejection lever. He and the seat would be shot out of the jet. He would let got of the seat because he was sitting on his parachute. As jets got faster the pilots wanted to hold on to that last piece of the jet.

The solution was webbing that was fastened at the top and bottom of the seat. Two seconds after being ejected, a motor would snap the webbing tight butt snapping the pilot away from the seat. He was now free to use his parachute.
