The Wheel Of The Year

Many years ago people lived in harmony with their enviroment. Most were farmers that lived by the seasons of Nature, the changing seasons and the Moon cycles that had a profound impact on their daily lives and their religious activities.

Now as modern Wiccans/Pagans/Witches we celebrate thirteen Full Moon ceremonies, and the same with the Darksome Moon (or New Moon ceremonies) as well as eight Sabbats and Gerbornstag (birthdays).

March 20 - 21

I love this holiday!! When nature stirs out of it's winter slumber and life starts to bloom once again. This is a time of awakenings and getting ready for the growing season to come. It's a good time to start your spring cleaning, not only physically but also spiritually. Giving your home a good 'housecleaning' can be very beneficial to you, bringing growth and health inside.

What I usually do is clean my house physically from top to bottom, opening windows and letting in the fresh spring air, getting rid of dust (trust me there's usually a lot of it!), and bringing out my spring and summer stuff. My kids love this time because we start to talk about the things we will be doing in the months to come. Also we start the seedlings for our garden, re-pot our houseplants, and start new ones from cuttings.

After the house is physically clean it's time to start cleaning out any bad energies that may have built up over the long dark winter months. This is can be as easy or as difficult as you make it.

I usually go around and 'sweep' out the negativity with my besome, just like you would do for Circle, visualizing the negativity being brushed out and clean, fresh place left behind. Then I go around the house with symbols of the four elements, windows and doors should get some extra attention, asking for protection, watchfulness, peace and love for the house from each element, then at dinner I do a formal invocation of the Goddess and God. Usually it's my patron deities Lady Isis and Lord Herne but I don't forget about the Lady Brigit and her travels from household to houehold. The table is set with my best dinnerware, symbols of spring and life are on the table, four candles (one for the Goddess, God, Brigit, and Luna), I've cooked spring type food and there's a bowl of snow melting in a bowl.

This may not be your way but in this way my children are involved and know the wonder of the turning of the Wheel of Life.
