ใช้บอกการกระทำหรือเหตุการณ์ที่จะเกิดขึ้นในอนาคต ตามปกติแล้ว สิ่งที่จะเกิดในอนาคตเป็นสิ่งที่ ไม่แน่นอน ดังนั้น การใช้ future tenses จึงไม่ใช่การบอกเวลาอย่างเดียว แต่มักจะมีความหมายอื่นแฝงอยู่ด้วย เช่น ประโยคที่มี future tenses อาจจะแสดงการคาดคะเน การพยากรณ์ หรือการสัญญาด้วย
