Present Simple Tense

1. ใช้แสดงเหตุการณ์ที่เป็นความจริงอยู่เสมอทั้งในอดีต ปัจจุบันและอนาคต

The sun shines by day and moon shines by night.

2. ใช้แสดงการรับรู้ ความรู้สึกหรือสภาวะที่เกิดขึ้นในขณะพูด

This fruit is fresh.

I go to church every Sunday.

3. ใช้กับการกระทำที่เป็นประเพณี (Customs) นิสัย (habits) ความสามารถ (ability)

Sam often comes to work early.

My mother goes shopping every Saturday.

4. ใช้แสดงเหตุการณ์หรือการกระทำที่เกิดขึ้นอยู่เป็นประจำมี adverb of frequency อยู่ด้วย (always, sometimes)

They always play tennis in the morning.

I sometimes walk to school.

She always cooks dinner at home.

5. ใช้แสดงเหตุการณ์หรือกิจกรรมต่างๆ ที่กำหนดไว้เป็นโปรแกรม

We leave Paris at 9 p.m. next Friday and arrive in Bangkok at 5 a.m.

6. ใช้ในประโยคคำสั่ง หรือขอร้อง เช่น

Look at this program.

Let me help you.

8. ใช้ในสุภาษิตหรือคำพังเพย เช่น

It is easier said than done. พูดง่ายกว่าทำ

9. ใช้แทน future tense ใน subordinate clause

How do we make the Present Simple?

	subject	auxiliary verb DO		main verb	object etc
+	I, you, we, they			like	coffee.
+	He, she, it			likes	coffee.
-	I, you, we, they	do	not	like	coffee.
-	He, she, it	does	not	like	coffee.
?	Do	I, you, we, they		like	coffee?
?	Does	he, she, it		like	coffee?

Look at these examples with the main verb 'to be'. Notice that there is no auxiliary:

	subject	main verb	object etc
+	I	am	French.
	You, we, they	are	French.
	He, she, it	is	French.
-	I	am not	old.
	You, we, they	are not	old.
	He, she, it	is not	old.
?	Am	I	late?
	Are	you, we, they	late?
	Is	he, she, it	late?
