Educational Goals:

One of your goals in this class should be to improve your ability to self-edit your own writing and to be able to identify more errors and potential problems. This writing assignment is designed to motivate you to start your own personal editing checklist that should assist you to spot errors in the future.



Instructions:

Compile a list of at least ten things that you need to be especially aware of to look for in your own writing when you are self-editing. This may include commonly misspelled words that you are having trouble with or comma placement, etc. This list should be drawn from editors comments during the peer review workshop and your own awareness of commonly made errors you tend to make.



Assigned: Third Class meeting.

Number of course points: 10 points.

DUE DATE: Fifth Class meeting. Tuesday September 19, 2000 9:30 am, in class.

Assignment 5: The Want Ad Assignment





Instructions:

For the next class (Thursday September 14) bring in a Want Ad for a job you would like to obtain for the intersession (the period between semesters), Spring Break, or next summer (e.g. lifeguard in California or Cancun, Minnesota Daily photographer, airline courier, movie critic, tour guide, web designer, etc.). You can go online or find a want ad in a newspaper. You will be preparing a Resume, Scannable Resume, Cover Letter, and References to apply for this position and also posting your resume on two general employment websites.
