Wednesday, April 6 8:30 a.m. Kick Off with GA DOL representatives. Learn about the state of the state and their successful initiatives. 9:45 a.m. “Career Assessment and Development in the Age of Portfolio Careers” with Terri Bruce. We will learn alternatives to traditional assessments and how to help clients showcase their existing skills and develop new ones as they pursue their chosen path. 11:00 a.m. “Career Counselor as Distance Educator” with Sally Gelardin. We will learn from this expert how to help our clients make transitions and stay employable through distance career counseling. 12-1 Lunch on your own – Try the delights of Atlanta! 1:15 “Tomorrow’s Skill Shortages and Older Workers: Trends, Strategies and Electronic Tools for the Career Development Professional” with Stephen Kornblatt. We will learn how to provide support and guidance to older workers though the use of web tools. 2:30 “Portable Careers: Packing Your Career When You Pack Your Bags. This energetic presenter will show us how to develop our own Portable Careers seminars sharing the concepts and activities she has developed for transitioning workers. 3:45 “Celebrating Employment Counseling” Annual NECA Meeting. Join us to share ideas and vision for our profession. 5:00 Past President’s Reception in NECA Suite. We will celebrate our heritage and honor our past leaders. |
Thursday, April 7 8:30 “Military to Civilian Transition” with Stephen Flaherty and Sandra Junker. We will learn about the transition challenges facing returning military members when they move from military to civilian life. The presenters will also share resources that are available for this group. 9:45 “How to Fuel a One Stop” with Myrna Webb, M.Ed, NBCC,NCP, and Joanne Blunt, M.Ed, Employment Counselors from the New York State Department of Labor, Division of Employment Services, Broome Tioga Workforce. This counseling professional will share her expertise on what works and doesn’t work in a one stop. 11:00 “Training Initiatives in Career and Employment Counseling” with Harvey Schmelter-Davis. We will hear the latest professional development initiatives for employment counselors. 12 Lunch and Awards Presentation – “Fatherhood, the Other Part of Welfare Reform” with Mr. Rene Bedgood of the Georgia Fatherhood Services Network. This presentation will address the often forgotten part of the family, the non-custodial father. This program assists fathers in becoming employable so that they can pay child support. 1:45”Partnerships: Community, Business and Schools for Workforce Development” with Cheri Butler. Hear about one collaboration that links a university, Workforce Development, the Chamber of Commerce and a city in a single venue providing true one stop services. 3:00 A Panel of Experts Discuss Employment Counseling – Led by Michael Lazarchick.
