Who Are We

Michigan Employment Counselors Association (MECA) offers professional leadership to those who counsel in employment and career counseling settings or those employed in related areas of counselor education, research, administration, or supervision in business and industry, colleges and universities, and government. MECA examines legislation and issues affecting employment counseling. MECA encourages the professional development of those counseling in employment and employability settings providing opportunities for professional growth through participation in statewide activities, workshops, special projects, and convention sessions.

What Do We Do

Employment counselors help job seekers make wise career decisions. They help clients explore and evaluate their vocational plans through analysis of their interests, work history, academic training, aptitude scores and leisure time activities. Personal traits, physical capacities and temperament are also considered. The employment counselor will also work with individuals to clarify and interpret specific job duties and requirements. They also offer clients job seeking skill development, resume writing, training information and job development assistance.

Our Purpose

Our purpose is to facilitate, inform, advance and promote professional development of employment related counseling to all counseling professionals through seminars, workshops and conferences. In addition, by assuming and exercising leadership roles in the Michagan Counseling Association, we can move successfully into the next millennium.

To provide members with information on the needs of tommorrow's workplace by building linkages with the business community.
