Section III.8:  The "Black" Brotherhood

The dumber people think you are, the more surprised they're going to be when you kill them
 -- William Clayton

The "Black" Brotherhood is the traditional name for those people who have turned their backs on their very nature, denying their True Will.  Since no term has made itself available to replace the traditional phrase, we will continue to use it for the time being1.

Anyone can serve the "Black" Brotherhood, all this takes is ignorance.  Some religious groups and politicians are servants of the "Black" Lodge.  Most of the "Black" Lodge are merely "Black" Magicians.  A "Black" Magician is one who has turned their back on their HGA and is working against accomplishing their True Will.  They have dedicated themselves to the exaltation of their egos and (whether they know it or not) the destruction of their souls.  Upon termination of physical mortality, the "Black" brother will either disintegrate or become one of the "Black" Brotherhood.

If one is an accomplished "Black" Magician, then one might succeed in becoming a Psychic Vampire.  If a "Black" Magician succeeds in this, then the other "Black" Brothers normally set upon him or her.  If they survive this onslaught, they are grudgingly admitted (in actuality, they cannot prevent it) and allowed to discreetly feed upon the energy of the "Black" Magicians and other servants of the "Black" Lodge.

The title "Black" Brotherhood is somewhat of a misnomer.  They are a brotherhood only to the extent that the "Black" Lodge itself, and all of its food, will continue.  The "Black" Brothers each work together only enough to fight a common enemy.  The rest of their time is spent bickering and jockeying for more power within the "Black" Brotherhood.

Footnotes

1.  The magickal system of the Temple and the Order is derived from Carroll's "Eight Colours of Magick" where the color indicates what type of magick, rather than some moral indicator.  Magick is amoral, relying wholly upon its wielder to utilize it for "good" or "evil" purposes.  For this section,  however, "Black" is utilized in its classical sense, to designate something as "evil".  { Return }
