The Unicorn Leaves

Deep, deep, deep in the cool
                      Forest, by a mirror pool,
                      Lives the silken swift,
                      Lives the marble gift
                      With a spiral horn.

Someday you may see him pass
As a shadow, hear the grass
                      Bend his steps. And hush!
                      Watch the poolside rushes
                      Parted by the horn

The water bursts as if a gale
                      Started from his golden nail,
Bids them part. Then the sounds
                      Of horse and hounds,
And in a moment, he is gone.
