7-26-98: Saving Private Ryan

Book Recently Finished(about 3 or 4 days ago): The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath

About an hour ago, I escaped from the movie theater after watching Saving Private Ryan. Maybe you've heard of it. Maybe you haven't. I bet alot of 13 year olds don't want to watch it, but I desperately wanted to even though I knew the violence in the movie would be horrible to watch.

This movie was devestatingly extraordinary. It made me even sadder than watching Titanic. There is nothing worse than seeing a dying soldier helplessly calling for his mother. It really made me think about those World War II veternans I clap for on Independence Day when they are asked to stand up and be recognized.

I'm starting summer camp tomorrow which I'm not exactly thrilled about, but I'm hoping for the best. I guess after watching that war movie, I've taken my life in perspective and have realized how lucky I am. Who cares about my petty problems when people are dieing, and have died already. People have died with pain and misery as their guts spill out. People have died moaning as their limbs are severed. People have died not necessarily because they want to, but because they have to for their country, or world, or whatever.
