The god of the moment of silence, by H. Av.

Nature has set a forest on fire last night.
'Tis a sacrifice we never would have given
To any god.

Modesty in destruction the gods have taught us
and when the lesson was forgot
we sent herds of men into the fire.
Modesty in appeasing god and man the gods have taught us
and when the lesson was forgot
we bid our hands do horrors which sent wrath in our own hearts.

Above all
The gods bade us pay homage
to the master of man:

The touch of ingenuity
The secret of the right decision
The true fathoming of a relationship
are all hid in a moment of silence.

In a moment of silence
Lies the secret of the true sacrifice
which never destroys too much
and never seeks to appease.

It is all worth considering:
For, reading this poem,
you have already sacrificed one moment of your life
to the master of man,
to the god of the moment of silence.
