SSTV sopa opra auditions draw large crowd to N-wing
Ambitious student actors swarmed to upper N-wing lounge on Tuesday night, December 5, in hopes of finding stardom, as Stockton Students Television (SSTV) held open auditions for roles in its first student-produced sopa opra.
On arrival, students added their name, phone number and email address to the list of those auditioning. SSTV staff went down the lost, calling students to one of two audition spots. For their auditions some students performed monoluges for the camera, while others underwent an interview.
By the end of the night, at least seventy-five students had auditioned. Also, tewnty-one students audtioned to be writeers for the program.
A wide variety of students came out to the auditions. Everyone from drama club members to regular students were present.
A casting board comprised of four SSTV staff members will decide casting. The board wil decide who wil be cast by watching the audition tapes and deciding who is best for the roles. Seeing as the show has generated a sizeable amount of enthusiam form the students, the casting board is planning the numbers of roles accordingly.
"We're going to try to give everyone who auditionted a small role, even if it's only a couple of lines," noted casting board member of roles accordingly.
Jay Feit, who is also involved with the program, said, "The last review of the tapes will be on Monday."
Professor Farina is advising this project, but the project is mainly student-initiated. "It's going to be a great deal of work," Farina said. "Especially this semester as we try to get it on its feet." With so much interest, things look promising." While Farina is advising the production, SSTV staffer Francis Rodriguez has been described as the brains behind the operation.
The soap opra will begin filiming next semester, towards the end of January. There will be nine episodes, each 50 minutes long. There are sixteen main characters and many sub-plots. Writers for the show already have several plot ideas. The plot will be filled with sex, lies, deceit, and drama, promising an interesting show.
Hopes are high that the show will not only be seen on campus and Stockton's public access channel, but on other cable channels. There have been numerous offers form around the area.
