THE SACRED RHYTHM
BELIEFS
Rescenism is not a religion about worship of other creatures.
The basic belief is that everything in the universe has a spiritual "vibrational rhythm". This belief is based very loosely on the scientific hypothesis called "string theory" in which all particles and forces can be described as vibrations of cosmic "strings". In their worldview, every being, every mind, and every soul interacts with all else in the universe and the Quantum Creation itself.
Although some ancient Earth-pagan religions involved magical energy webs and other such metaforces, there is little metaphysical parallel to the details and ceremonies of Rescenism.
Rescenist ceremonies focus on chanting and singing. Like the Hindu "Om", Rescenists believe that perfecting the voice can be the key to bring our bodies and souls into resonance with those of other believers and also the ultimate cosmic vibrations. Rescenists believe that the universe is not an accident or a designed machine, but a self-forming entity, and all beings can influence its future. In fact, their explanation of the Creation is based on quantum physics discoveries revealing that no event is certain until an observer is present--the very act of witnessing therefore influences the result of the event. Rescenists believe that Humanity's search for its origins in the depths of the big bang is what caused the creation of the universe in the first place--in other words, we are our own makers, and the Quantum Creation is a causal loop. Obviously, the future is also undetermined, but the Rescenist goal is to bring all life into a perfect vibrational harmony.
HISTORY
The earliest Rescenist believers congregated on the world of the Meditating Idols (774 Sagrei VI, Type-C) to join the supposed 'aliens' in their eternal meditation. They had frequent (non-violent) turf battles with all of the other religions and cults that were attracted to that planet.
Rescenism became a popular movement on several worlds, with intense sessions of chanting and singing which would move entire congregations. Several enclosed asteroid colonies were specially-constructed to allow the vibration of Rescenist chants to be amplified throughout the superstructure of the base (a very impressive effect to a visitor). The total number of practicing Rescenists at the faith's peak reached 90 million. They were a particular target of the Tahmetian Crusades, however, and the religion took a long time to regain its former vitality.
