Our unit is sponsored by Ft Kearny State Park which allows us the use of:
- Three 12 pound mountain howitzers.
- One 24 pound (original) cannon.
- The Fort for our activities.
- In addition some of our members have their own cannons, thus at times we can field 6 guns.
Activities we are involved in:
- Participate in local parades.
- Greet the pony express riders, and the Oregon and Mormon trail wagon trains.
- Sponsor a January social.
- Battle re-enacting
- Cannon firing demonstrations
General Info:
Our unit is geared to educate visitors touring the Fort, and for a lot of good
fun. On a typical weekend we have had members portray, a farrier(blacksmith), mortician, frontier scout, pioneers, teacher, and women
quilting, cooking, or making candles. We also have conducted candle light tours of the Fort, participated in old fashion dances and baseball games. On Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day weekend at 2:00 PM we fire the cannons
for the public and occasionally have skirmishes. Our unit is "family friendly" and encourages familes to attend and even join up with us.
Our unit has the capability to portray a Confederate artillery battery which we do at certain events.
