Jan. 2001 Newsletter We are glad to have added the Pettits and the Porters to our unit this year. We are also glad David got his family to Omaha and that Tad and Josephine were able to move back to Kearney. We have had a great past year and look forward to different events this coming year. We had our first meeting on Sat. the 13th of January 2001 following the Mountainman Rendevous at the Ramada Inn. We all enjoyed eating at the Pizza Hut even though we had 4 inches of new snow. Randy is setting up a GAR reunion at Stuhr museum on 23-24 June which should be a lot of fun. This coming year we also are going to attend the 1st civil war reenactment at Lexington. It looks like a lot of fun. Activities for everyone, ie. battle, tea, dance etc. Brad Roberts is also looking for first person reenactors to go into the school on Friday, if you are interested. At an officers meeting at the rendevous, numerous civil war groups were represented and asked for support. Terry or Paul have all of the particulars if you want to travel to WY or CO. 1st Neb. is plannin an event at Pawnee City but no date is set. The Fremont Pathfinders are asking for help at O'Neil, NE on the 14-15 of July, they are going there this year in lieu of Fremont Days. With all that is going on, we should have a very fun and busy year. Anyone wanting to join our unit can email me and I will put you in contact with Terry or Paul. Best wishes for the New Year.

For those new recuits to our unit, the following is provided. Our unit is geared to educate visitors touring the Fort, and for a lot of good fun. The unit consists of about 13 men, 7 women, and 15 children. On a typical weekend we have a farrier, mortician, frontier scout, and women quilting, cooking, or making candles. We also conduct candle light tours of the Fort and love to have dances. On holidays at 2:00 PM we fire the cannons for the public and occasionally have skirmishes.
Our sister unit is located in Grand Island, NE approximately 50 miles from us. It is "G" Company, 9th Texas Infantry. We are invited to attend their activities and they in turn attend ours. Our unit has the capability to "galvanize rebel" to assist G Company.
