ENVILA Women's Non-State College (WNC) was founded in 1994. It still remains the only higher education institution solely for women in Republic of Belarus. Within a short time, it has become a center for women's education now being revived in the country. ENVILA aims at providing high quality up-to-date training in professions and at practicing an individual approach in both academic and extra-curricular work. The goal thus defined determined limited enrollments of 130 to 150 female students yearly. The College pursues to revive the traditions of small-sized schools reputed for high quality standards in education alongside a friendly atmosphere valued by both teachers and students. We especially take pride in our efficient faculty who do their best to design their teaching programs so that they might meet the students' needs in the best possible way.
The College is distinguished for its innovative approaches to planning and organizing the teaching process, the content of the curriculum and ways of its implementation. This approach makes possible for students to get qualified in two or even three careers, unlike the majority of traditional higher educational institutions. Besides the major subjects, the curricula at the departments involve liberal arts, women's and gender studies, women's and children rights, child and woman psychology. ENVILA is also distinctive in offering its students intensive English and computing courses.
ENVILA is becoming the important center for organizing activity around women's issues. ENVILA is one of the co-founders of Crysis Center for women confronted with problems in their professional and family life. Our Institute is working on further development of curricula materials for teaching new courses. One of the innovations was the establishing of the Center for Gender Studies starting from 1998 (Head, Irina Tchikalova, Ph.D). Affiliated with ENVILA, the Center is concerned with carrying out research in topical women's and gender issues. The Center applies up-to-date techniques and develops its research base. It also encourages students' involvement in scientific and research work.
