Can one forsake true love in order to attempt to obtain a lifelong goal or dream?

His image cast in lifeless stone to endure ages, wearing away at sloth's speed under nature's persistent defilement, while his body gave up and returned to soil long ago.

Pong- a gamers game.
Descent, Quake one through three, Duke Nukem 3-D, Doom and it's legacy, Wolfenstien 3-D, Heretic, Redneck Rampage, Forsaken, Turok, Goldeneye… Isn't it about time to give them a rest people, they are not that playable. What is the plot? Simple- if it moves, kill it. Shoot it. If it don't die easy, use your bigger gun. Oooh, the brainpower involved is absolutely ghastly. So why play? The graphics are killer, it utilizes my four-speaker surround-sound system, and I bought a 550-megahertz processor just to play game like this. Ugh! You people sicken me! The first person shoot-em-ups need to be retired. There are enough games like that on the market now, It is time for a new Idea. I don't mind that the first person games exist, or became popular - they were a novel Idea. Now that we have beaten that idea into a bleeding, sobbing pile of worn-out games, it is time to move forward.

Don't buy new games if the GAME is not new… those first person games are all pretty much variations upon the same game, again, and again… the game is not new. The game is still first person, shoot-it-till-it-dies. Pong was a game! K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple Stupid! Do you think anyone played pong because the graphics were cool… Hell no, it took me a minute to figgure out it was table-tennis, what with the square for a ball and all… And in Pong, if it wasn't black, it was white! Not even a shade of fickin grey in the whole game. What about the sound that went with the game… you had two beeps, and a boop… that was it. So why the hell did people play pong if it sucked so bad… No, not because there were no other options… they had other simple games, and a life outside of video games too. Pong was popular because it was fun. That is it. Fun to play. Did people buy 7 slightly different copies of Pong… HELL NO!

It is time to retire Mario and is brother… they have been around since the dark ages, and should have died with the jump to 16 bit. Is Nintendo so brain-dead that they cannot create characters from scratch anymore? But at least Mario brothers had a decent plot, not that it compares to the the plots that some programmers developed in gaming, prevideo.

Am I the only person who remembers what Zork was? I don't mean Zork Grand Inquisitor, or Zork Nemesis, or even Return To Zork. They were all good games, but because the people who made them knew how to build a plot… you can be sure of this because when they started the Zork series in the early eighties, they had NO sound, and NO graphics, only text. The first several installments of Zork were interactive books. Instead of turning pages, you told the character what to do, and he did it… then the game would tell you the results and fill you in on the details. Their games were both an immense challenge and superior entertainment.

Did you realize that there has been a revival of classic games recently… Sales for Pac-Man, Frogger, Asteroids, Invaders, and Centipede are all up. In addition many of these games have been re-worked and added to in order to utilize modern technologies… Why? Because, the games are just too damned good to die.

So next time someone wants to challenge your gamming skills, Tell them to forget starting a network deathmatch, you want to play a gamer's game, you want to go medieval on them with a classic, you want PONG.
