A NEW HUMANITY

Where do the numerous conflicts on this planet come from? We needn't search for long! From the will of one over the other, from the rule of might.

This sad reality taints the very process of democracy. The majority dominates over the minority. And with the multiparty system, a minority succeeds in dominating over the majority. Moreover, the democratic process is used by dominators capable of anything to take and maintain power so that, without ever being accountable to their electors, they can pursue their own ends.

How can we build a humane society when we act in such a way? The human body could not survive if each of the cells that composed it wanted to dominate and devour the others.

A new breed of men and women is needed. Men and women who understand that collaboration is preferable to domination. A fair collaboration that is respectful of each person's liberty. Across the planet, these men and women must regroup to bring about a new humanity.

We will then be able to live a new democracy. We will no longer see the dominators going after power, but we will have responsible individuals who will elect representatives capable of coordinating their wishes. And it will no longer be a question of a majority dominating over a minority. Because we will see to it that, however small the minority, the equitable wants of each will be satisfied. There will then be no reason whatsoever for any conflict.

It's very simple. But it will change the world. And it will be good to live on this planet because humanity will have become like a body whose individual cells coordinate its collective life.

On April 22nd, 1999, the philosopher Albert Jacquard granted a television interview to Radio-Canada. He expressed himself in these terms.

Whether it’s in Kosovo or Littleton, U.S.A., individual or collective barbarism is at play.

Proposing competition as its motor (forever wining over the other, destroying him or her) gives society the wrong direction. This must all be rethought. A very profound rethinking is needed.
