BRITISH LITERATURE

British literature spans almost two thousand years from the Anglo-Saxon oral tradition of scops to the twentieth century.  We begin with Beowulf and follow a chronological approach ending with contemporary fiction in June.  In addition to the literature of England, the course includes historical and cultural background, creative writing opportunities, literature circles, oral presentations and the research paper.  Interpretation of the literature is coupled with an emphasis on writing and research skills throughout the year.
