HOW MANY GODS ARE THERE ?
Question # 1
John 17:3 – Ask them to read this verse, "This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true GOD,…" After they read this ask them if they would agree that there is only ONE true GOD? They will answer yes. Then ask them to turn to Deuteronomy 32:39 and read "See now that I – I am HE and there are no GODS together with me…" Then ask, according to this verse there exist No GODS with Jehovah? They will say that is correct. Then ask them to turn to Isaiah 43:10 and read, "…Before me there was no GOD formed, and after me there continued to be none." And then on to Isaiah 44:8, "…Does there exist a GOD besides me? No, there is no rock. I have recognized none." Then on to chapter 45:5, " I am Jehovah, and there is no one else. With the exception of me there is no GOD…" Then verse 21, "…is it not I Jehovah, besides whom there is no other GOD…" Then ask, according to all these verses would you agree that it is very clear that there is no other GOD? Then go to Isaiah 9:6, "…and his name will be called wonderful, counselor, Mighty GOD, eternal Father,…" Ask, if there is only ONE GOD as we already established with the previous scriptures, then why is Jesus here called "Mighty GOD" ? They will probably respond by saying that HE is just a "Mighty GOD" and not the "Almighty GOD" like Jehovah. Even at that it is still contrary to the previous verses discussed; however, if they respond that way you can still ask them if they are aware that Jehovah is addressed as "Mighty GOD" in Isaiah 10:24. Whatever the argument may be the bottom line is this; according to Isaiah 9:6 and John 1:1 the Jehovah’s Witnesses claim that Jesus is "a" God and this is totally contrary to Isaiah 43:10, 44:8, 45:5&21, and Deuteronomy 32:39, and others.
Now go to John 10:30-33: "30. I and the Father are one. 31. Once more the Jews lifted up stones to stone him. 32. Jesus replied to them: I displayed to you many fine works from the Father. For which of those works are you stoning me? 33. The Jews answered him: we are stoning you, not for a fine work, but for blasphemy, even because you, although being a man, make yourself A GOD." Ask, what did Jesus mean in Verse 30? They will most likely say that Jesus was only saying that He and the Father were one in purpose, thought, ect… if so then ask: if that was all he was saying then why did the Jews say he was blaspheming? Wasn’t that their goal also to gain perfect unity with the Father? Also an important note; the Watchtower has mistranslated the end of verse 33 to make it fit their belief, just as they did with John 1:1. To make this point ask; Does it make sense that the Jews would call it blasphemy and try to stone him for simply claiming to be "A GOD" ? They knew exactly what Jesus was saying, and said exactly what they understood him to be saying in Verse 33 (that he was saying if fact that He was GOD in the flesh).
