FORGIVENESS : JEHOVAH OR JESUS ?
Question # 14
Psalm 32:5, "My sin I finally confessed to You…to Jehovah. And You Yourse3lf pardoned the error of my sins." Then Jeremiah 31:34, "…the utterance of Jehovah. For I shall forgive their error…" Then Daniel 9:9, "To Jehovah our GOD belong the mercies and the acts of forgiveness…" Ask, according to these verses would you agree that only Jehovah forgives sin? Then go to Mark 2:5-10, 5. "And when Jesus saw their faith He said to the paralytic: child, your sins are forgiven. 6. Now there were some of the scribes there,…reasoning… 7. He is blaspheming. Who can forgive sins except one, GOD? 8. But Jesus said to them… 10. But in order for you men to know that the Son of Man has authority to forgive sins upon the earth…" Ask, by saying this wasn’t Jesus claiming to be GOD, since ordinary man or even a prophet, or even an angel has not authority to forgive sins? They will probably say that he got his authority from Jehovah, it was not his. If they do, then ask, if he was expressing it in that way wouldn’t He say "in the name of Jehovah your sins are forgiven"? If Jesus was not claiming to have the authority Himself, then why would the scribes say He was blaspheming since he accredited it to Jehovah? Then state; in fact to prove to the scribes that He did indeed have the power to forgive, He healed the paralytic and then told them that was the proof in verse 10.
Now go to Acts 26:18, "To open their eyes…in order for them to receive forgiveness of sins... By [their] faith in Me." Ask, according to this verse Jesus not only tells Paul that forgiveness is from Him but says it comes by faith in Him, not Jehovah. How could Jesus say this and not be blaspheming, unless He is of course God?
