Status Quo Church

(To the Tune of "Scarborough Faire")

Are you going to a status quo church?
One that stays the same all the time?
One that likes what it's always done?
That once was a habit of mine.

Do you go to an old-fashioned church?
Stained-glass windows, organ and choir?
All the saints dressed up in their finest?
All the ushers waiting in line?

Does your church evangelize,
preach the Word with all of your might?
Or do you just show up on Sunday
Morning, evening, and Wednesday night?

Are you active in Christian work?
Feed the hungry, care for the poor?
Bring the sick and lame to your meetings,
Take the needy into your homes?

Or do you just go to "get fed,"
Pray a little, sing for a while,
Cry some tears, and go to the altar,
Then go out with friends for a meal?

Tell me, in your status quo church,
Are you doing all that you can?
Do you really count for the Gospel,
Or are you just wasting your time?

If you're going to a status quo church,
One that stays the same all the time,
Remember me, take heed to my witness:
That once was a habit of mine.
