The alcalde-mayor of Caraga, who went to Iligan to ask
for help to rebuild the ruined Tandag fort with arms,
equipment and men strong enough to protect the entire
district, including Butuan. From Iligan he went to Butuan
and then overland to Tandag. (This was quite normal
route at that time). At the instance of the padre cura,
the Butuanons built a fort along the Butuan River, as
was done also in Siargao and other towns.

A Cebuano resistance leader who attacked newly
organized Philippine Constabulary in Surigao that
killed its leader, Capt. Clark. Capt. Concepcion and
his men were later hanged in the gallows in June 1904
near the PC barracks (now the site of the Provincial
Constabulary Command) at 9 o'clock in the morning.

A missionary who
was assigned in Provincia de Caraga and who
because of his military achievements became
popularly known as "El Padre Capitan".
While prior of Butuan, he was consulted by Capt. Francisco
de Atienza, sent by Gov. Corcuera to capture the Maranaos
of Lake Lanao. From him came the advice to build six
collapsible boats, which being dimantled, could easily be brought
overland to the lake. With these boats the Spanish
force of 50 Spaniards and 800 Caragans (some Butuanons)
secured the surrender of the Maranaos right in their own
country.

request of the natives when the Spanish priests
were herded and held prisoners by the revolutionaries led
by Wenceslao and Simon Gonzalez.

Also known Don Prudencio, he was the commander of the Spanish
garrison in Baganga (Davao Oriental).He revolted against
the Spanish Authorities during the Philippine Revolution
and became one of its key leaders. He would go on to serve
for a couple of years as transition governor with the
coming of the American forces under General Bates. It was
he who surrendered the Surigao revolutionary government
to the Americans. He was the superior of Capt. Hilarion Martinez who ordered
the shooting of the brothers Simon and Wenceslao Gonzalez in
what is now Kabawan Beach in Cortes Surigao del Sur.

the Philippine Revolution when he joined the Cebu uprising led
by Gen. Leon Kilat. In his honor a street in Cebu has been named
after him.

Japanese War in the early forties. He showed his valor and
heroism by saving a woman and her child standing on the
side of a street in Quiapo, Manila, where the bomb thrown
by the Japanese soldiers exploded. Both mother and child
were saved but Exequiel perished. Today, Montilla Boulevard
in Butuan City stands as a living memory of his heroism.

King of Butuan and Calaghan who was recorded to have came to Magellan's
ship during his visit in an island upon entering the
Surigao Strait. He was recorded to have blood compact with
Magellan (casi casi) during Magellan's visit in Mazaua where
he later ordered the first mass in the Philippine
archipelago (March 31, 1521).

Mazaua. He was said to have gold earrings and gold inlays in

township (reducciones) for the Manobo converts and put
an end to tribal slavery and the internecine warfare

intermediary between the revolutionary forces and the
American troops.
He was said to have a very good mastery of Butuanon,
Surigaonon, and Manobo tongue and was said to be close
to parishioners even to 'fierce baganis".
