GREAT NEWS!-The Mission of Love Foundation has been nominated for for the 1999 Conrad N.Hilton
Humanitarian Prize,the worlds largest humanitarian award.Maria Jose Medina Diaz of Mexico nominated MOL for the work we have done in her home communities and other third world countries.
This annual one million dollar award was established by the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation to honor a volunteer,charitable or non-governmental organization that has made extraordinary contributions toward alleviating human suffering.
We are honored to be nominated for this award.As an organization that relies soley on volunteer efforts and funding,we wholeheartedly thank everyone who gave of themselves to make this nomination possible.
The winning organization will be announced in the fall.
March 1999-Completed a hospital to serve 30,000Mayan Indians of the Yucatan Peninsula.The first medical clinic of its kind in Mexico,this clinic will offer both traditional and western medicine.Furnishings will be airlifted to the site,including an ambulance.
During March we also installed computers in the cerebral Palsy Clinic on Isla Mujeres.
February 1999-Airlifted 28,000 pounds of educational and medical supplies to peru.
January 1999-Fourty four MOL volunteers went to the Rio Dulce Orphanage of Casa Guatemala to build a two story,six room school for 220 children.The only mode of transportation was by boat.At this time the school is finished and ready for school to begin.
During January,the MOL gave an automobile to our food service manager who helped us at the Cleveland Indian games last fall.She will use it to take her child to cerebral palsy treatments.
December 1998-Over 8000 American Indians of South Dakota benefitted from aid sent by MOL.
November 1998-Local Hurricaine Mitch relief efforts yielded 120,000 pounds of rice,beans,corn,blankets,and medical supplies that were airlifted to Guatmala.
October 1998-Local Hurricaine Mitch relief efforts yielded 137,000pounds of aid that was delivered to the Mesquite Indians of Honduras.This was the ONLY aid they received.
September 1998-MOL airlifted 27,000 pounds of medical aid to Puerto Rico in response to Hurricaine George.
August 1998-MOL built a Cerebral Palsy Clinic on Isla Mujeres,Mexico.The name of the clinic is "For the Love of Children".
Also during august the MOL furnished an Amish school with teacher and student desks and filing cabinets and STILL found time to airlift 120,000 pounds of aid to the orphans of Guatemala.
July 1998-Airlifted 80,000 pounds of aid to Mexico.
May 1998-MOL went to Guatemala to install a new roof on the kindergarten at the Casa Guatemala Orphanage and do general repair work on the other buildings.
Rotary Internationals'most prestigious award,The Paul harris Fellow,was recently awardedto Kathleen Price.The Paul Harris Award simply states,"In appreciation of tangible and significant assistance given for the furtherance of better understanding and friendly relations among people of the world."The Rotary Club of Boardman is a proud supporter of the Mission of Loves' many projects.
"Kathy is a wonderful example of Rotarys'theme ,Service above Self,"said a Rotary spokesperson.
Ginny Amstutz,a long time friend and early supporter of the Mission of Love,presented the award to Kathy.
