Imagine your lifetime is a single thread in an unfinished Tapestry. All the other threads are the lifetimes of all the people around you. Your thread, your life, is interwoven with many other threads - many other lives. Countless more threads that never physically contact your thread nevertheless have a powerful impact on yours, and upon the Tapestry as a whole.
Taken in perspective, the Tapestry of lives weaves an intricate picture of patterns. But from where you are you can only see a minute portion. Most of the time you cannot even make out the pattern of which you are an integral part. However, once in a while it becomes possible for you to catch a glimpse of your pattern. Sometimes you can even comprehend the entirety of the Tapestry for a moment or two. These are the times when miraculous enlightenment brings you into glorious understanding.
Now leave the Tapestry behind and look to your life-thread. See and feel how it weaves in and out among many other life-threads. Some follow yours for quite a long way, some only briefly. Some impact persuasively upon yours, some seemingly have no influence but parallel yours a long way. Others appear suddenly, cross yours, forever change your course, and then they are gone again just as quickly. Each one adds to, and is a part of your pattern. You, in turn, are part of their pattern.
Look closer still and find today on your life-thread. It is only a very short stretch. It is, however, the most important part of your life-thread. Today is the only time you can choose your path and create the bit of color and pattern that goes into the Tapestry. Yesterday's bit of thread has already been laid - and tomorrow's is yet to find it's place. Look to today's little piece, decide and enjoy - just for today.
Or maybe it is as Louise Bogan said some time ago...
Perhaps this very instant is your time . . .
your own, your peculiar, your promised and presaged moment,
out of all moments forever.
