Bulguruw in marsh near Pormpuraaw, NQ [PH] |
Bulguruw, Eleocharis spp. (family Cyperaceae), is an acquatic plant with an edible root. It is abundant right after the wet, primarily in swamps near the gulf coast. The root is edible and very sweet. For more information on plant food and the traditional subsistence of Aboriginal people in central Cape York Peninsula, see the Edible plant products page. Pigs dig it up to eat it, too. |
