Coot, Fulica atra

The purple swamphen, Porphyrio porphyrio and the coot, Fulica atra (family Rallidae), are swamp country birds where they graze feeding on acquatic weeds. Both have short beaks and a frontal shield on the forehead, the swamphen's being red and the coot's being white. The swamphen is mostly purple and the coot is mostly black.
