Plumed whistling-duck, Dendrocygna eytoni at Taronga zoo, Syndey [PH].

There are two whistling-duck (genus Dendrocygna, family Anatidae) species in Australia, both found in central Cape York Peninsula. They are the plumed whistling-duck, Dendrocygna eytoni (shown in the image accompanying images) and the wandering whistling-duck, Dendrocygna arcuata.

In English they are commonly called "whistleduck." They have their name because of their loud whistling calls and the whistling noise their wings make during flight.
