Section A: Every-Sunday traditional latin masses:
There are no approved every-Sunday indult masses in the Diocese but there is good access
to one in the Diocese of Brooklyn for part of the Diocese.
The Diocese is also the locus of the unapproved masses of the traditionalist
priest, Fr. Gomar DePauw, whose opposition to the reforms during and following the Second
Vatican Council actually pre-dates that of Archbishop Lefebvre. Fr. DePauw's mass
might be described as a private lilturgy to which the faithful are invited to assist; but
it is certainly not an 'indult mass' and its celebration is not supported by the local
ordinary in any way. Late in 1999, a new bishop was appointed for the Diocese and it
is hoped that he will soon approve an Indult Mass.
