A supremely perfect being is one which is infinitely endowed with every positive attribute and perfection. This idea clearly exists in our minds, but if it only existed in our minds then there is a being which is greater, that is a being possessed of every positive attribute and perfection plus actual reality. I’m afraid I tend to start out reckoning there is such a thing as reality since otherwise there doesn’t seem to be much point. There is a reality because here we are standing around arguing about it, or at least I think I am and if all that is real is my thought then if I think there is a reality then there is. I think. Anyway, wondering whether the truck coming towards you at high speed is real or not doesn’t, as a general rule, stop it hurting when it hits you, so I’ll just leave thoughts like that for later.

Anyway, existence is part of the nature of the supremely perfect being, it follows from it’s nature that it exists. In other words, it exists necessarily and not contingently. ‘God’s essence is to exist’. Or, as I say, the Goddess, since it is generally thought that the supreme being created something or other and creation seems to me to be a power more naturally ascribed to the feminine. I think that the actual supreme being is not male, not female, not neuter or hermaphroditic but exists in such a state where considerations of gender are irrelevant, however the English language has no word adequate for such a concept and pronouns that ascribe gender have to be used. I think it’s about time our culture got used to the idea of the Divine Feminine again and I personally feel I can relate to a Goddess much better that to God the Father who I was taught about in school so I say Goddess.

All these arguments about her existence however depend on the idea that she is somehow separate and apart from the world of observable things. I do not believe this to be the case. It is true that there are some aspects of the Goddess that cannot be perceived with the ordinary five senses. There is more to the Goddess than sight, sound, touch, taste and smell. She has a dimension I call Spirit in addition to these things. However, it is not true to say that this cannot be perceived. It’s perception has been central to much religious experience throughout human existence.

The Goddess I think of, the Goddess I believe in, is very real to me, like tables and chairs. Indeed she contains within herself these things. She is the earth, the sky, the stars. She is every child ever born. She is all that was, is and will be, she is the spirit which permeates all things and she is all things. This quality of spirit includes every thought, every theory, every sensation, every emotion, every memory, the sum and total of not just human but all experience since the beginning of time and until the end of it. She is self created, an idea that quantum physics actually partially supports. She is part of us and we are part of her. She is totality, Infinity, Eternity. She is the world and She is the soul of the world. She is the Goddess.

I suppose this is less an argument than another self supporting definition. The dimension of spirit would be disputed by behaviourists and reductionists and others, but I believe that in ignoring human experience they are leaving out one of the fundamental points that they should check their theories against and therefore stray far into a well constructed error. Without room for emotion and thought, will and intention, any theory denies what is experienced every day by millions and is much like saying the world cannot be spherical since we would all fall off the bottom. A fundamental element has been ignored and therefore the theory is flawed.
