VICTORIA INSTITUTION – A Tribute

V.I. my dear,
Standing tall,
It’s the way you’ll always be,
Always able to hold yourself on top,
Reigning as the champion.

V.I. my love,
Everything you offer is sweetness,
Anything against you is fraud,
Only the walls hold your secret,
Alas they never speak.

V.I. my obsession,
The moment I noticed you,
Barely able to gaze away in the fear of losing you,
You are the great dame,
That made this building great.

Love you have in abundance,
Always caring as much as a parent,
Pleased when we succeed,
Weeping when we succumb.

V.I. my darling,
You’re always eager to perform,
Offering more than we the students ever dreamt of,
I didn’t believe in dreams,
Till we met and you comforted me.

AS A VICTORIAN (1988 – 1992)

VICTORIA INSTITUTION,
The great name of my alma mater,
It’s popularly known as V.I.,
A unique building with just roof and wall,
Has served my education for five years.

Now,
Gone were the fond and sad memories,
The fond ones,
I will treasure,
The unhappy ones,
I will consider as lessons.

To all teachers who had taught me,
I am grateful of your dedication and enthusiasm,
Educating me in accordance to the philosophy,
Be a SCHOLAR, a GENTLEMAN and a SPORTSMAN,
Indeed I am much wiser now.

To all my beloved fellow VICTORIANS,
We had gone our separate ways now,
But the moments of joy and sorrow we shared,
Will be imprisoned in my mind forever,
Sadly for me, the chapter of ‘Life as a VICTORIAN’ has closed.

Coming soon,
Another new life and challenge,
And yet another new environment for me,
I still have to travel a long road of life,
In search of paradise,
Alas, the future of mine is left to be seen.

A VISION

I came to you,
Only a seed then,
So young and naïve,
Along the way I learned
To be yet wiser.

You gave me guidance,
Showed; illuminated my path,
A source of strength and inspiration,
You gave me hope,
To strive; to carry on,
In the face of adversity,
That came along the way.

The trials and tribulations,
And the hiccups along the journey,
You stood through it all,
And lived up to be the best.
I was never disappointed.

Your teachers; selfless mentors,
Tended the little boy; (me),
And nurtured me with knowledge,
Moulding; mens sana in corpora sana,
A Victorian.

Your children; fellow Victorians,
Braved me through
The stormy weather,
Walking in when others turn away,
Friends I’ll never forget.

Alas; as I leave now,
After five years,
Having learned and experience,
And a little wiser, for you,
I salute you Victoria Institution!

ON THE V.I. SPIRIT

Behold the glorious seventy years,
Ne’er in purest virtue so fair and proud,
Consume now my spirit, my happy tears,
To hear the name of V.I. cried aloud,
A stately form, the splendid edifice,
Encompassed the spirit of give and take;
As one in feeling, hopeful as sunrise,
Shining brilliance upon the ‘Friendship Lake’.
To greet the dewy morn with love adorn,
And part the mist of knowledge for mankind;
To help those that may fall to rise anon,
And revere the school with a loyal mind,
As V.I. calls in silent beckoning,
To Be Yet Wise, Victorians heeding.
