This page might get updated from time to time as I think of more things. At the moment, however, there are only two that come to mind. Those are fishing and golf.
I started doing both of these as a child. My father was an avid golfer (andstill is), and my grandfather loved to fish. He and my grandmother taught me how to do both. I don't nearly fish as much as I do, but I'm slowly getting back into the swing of golfing (pun intended).
My fishing started in the pond at the back of the farm where my grandparents used to live. For some reason, I guess that I figured that the fish got there some other way than being stocked. *s* It was one of those man-made ponds in Kentucky, on a 15 acre farm. I'd go out and dig worms in the old compost piles, or cut them out of horseweeds, and then walk with my grandparents down and fish. Some great memories there. The other great memory was of us going to Dix river in central Kentucky, every April, when the small-mouth Bass started running. The first year, both of my grandparents and my sister went. My sister wanted to catch butterflies, but the rest of us caught one heck of a string of fish!!! That's me, holding part of it, in the picture on the right.
My gradnfather passed over in 1977, and I never went with anyone again for those Springtime fishing experiences. However, the farm that my parents now own backs right up to that river. The first time that I saw it, my heart jumped. For the first time in ten years, I saw places where my childhood had been special. At times, I still go back there and look over the cliffs to see the river, and thank God for those memories.
Golf is a little different. My father was always a great golfer, but he doesn't have much patience when it comes to teaching. I have played off and on since being a kid, and enjoy the game. With a little improvement, I could really become great. All I need is pracice, right? *s* My last game of 18 holes, I shot 105. Short game was pitiful. Oh well. *s*
However, I can safely say that there is NOTHING better than taking a day off from work and going out with friends to shoot a round. That's the pic here on the left, of me and three colleagues cutting work and playing. *bs*
Here are some links for you to peruse on the two subjects at hand. Thanks, as always, for stopping by!
