F.A.Q
1. When I send back the
visiting form, do they take it out or does the inmate get it?
the
mail room staff will remove it and send for processing at visiting - though
when your form is approved, it's up to the inmate to inform you of the
approval, weeks later most facilities will send a letter of
approval/disapproval
2. How long do you think I
could visit him with him being in medical?
medical - depending on WHY
- he's in medical is just part of processing... TB tests,
HIV tests - psych
evaluation.
that typical/standard
medical housing lasts only the first week of processing.
after that they are sent
to housing to await transfer to permanent housing/facilities/institutions
(prisons)
still - for the duration
of reception/orientation, whether or not the inmate is in medical housing or
through that and into a cell,
your visits will last for
1 hour and be behind glass.
If this is a first term,
or you have never applied for visiting before, it's a very good possibility
your CDC form 106, visitors application; will not be processed in time to even
visit while that person is at reception, but approval will be noted in the
inmates central file, and your approval is only a one time thing that remains
active regardless of where or how many times the inmate is transferred or
moved in the system - * unless you do something to lose you visits.
3. Are there usually a lot
of people waiting to go and visit there love ones?
YES - it's always crowded
I have never experienced a
day that might be considered "slow"
the worst days are
holidays -
4. When you do get
approved for visiting do they send you some kind of visiting paper
stating that you are approved?
eventually yes.
it's much more efficient
to have your person inside send a letter with his/her form and notice of
visitor approval, than wait for yours.
you will not need it to
go to visit, just your valid identification /drivers license.
5. Is all of the clothing
rules the same for all prisons? What happens if someone is up there for
a visit and they are wearing the wrong clothes?
I always suggest / and do
myself - carry an extra set of clothing, right down to under garments and
shoes in the car (just in case)
most facilities have the
same dress codes, some are more relaxed than others, but - in case there are
"by the book" c/o's at the desk, or if your attire is totally
inappropriate
there are; at some
facilities, a "trailer" usually somewhere in the parking area
designated for visitors, - that is run by an outside entity such as
"friends outside" - or other family of inmates advocacies that will
lend you clothing to wear during your visit.
don't count on their
selection of temporary outfitting to be anything but "functional"
and keep your humor -
because if you are reduced to wearing their "loaner clothes"
you could end up in
flooding wool plaid golf pants and a hideous polka dot blouse -
or worse... mu-mu dresses
!!!
LIKE I SAID ABOVE : - take
a spare set of your own clothes - they will let you change into your own
clothes in their dressing area.
