Resipi 5 S : Kemahiran membaca buku kimia yang berkesan. |
| Lihatlah buku rujukan kimia yang ada di dalam pasaran. Semuanya
tebal-tebal, ada yang setebal 654 muka surat ! Adakah berkesan sikiranya anda menggunakan
masa beberapa jam untuk membaca sesuatu tajuk kimia dari muka surat pertama hingga muka
surat terakhir ? Bolehkah anda mengingat semua fakta atau memahami semua konsep kimia yang
telah dibaca ? Bagaimana anda boleh mencari maklumat yang dikehendaki daripada buku itu
dengan cepat dan tepat ? Jelasnya anda memerlukan suatu kemahiran membaca (reading skills) yang baik, bukan sahaja untuk menjimatkan masa belajar tetapi yang lebih penting ialah keberkesanannya selepas membaca sesuatu tajuk kimia. Artikel ini memperkenalkan Resipi Sup Kimia 5S, iaitu kemahiran membaca buku kimia dengan berkesan dan menggunakan masa yang singkat. |
| Tujuan Anda Membaca Berikut mungkin ialah salah satu tujuan anda.
Tidak kira apakah tujuan anda, anda memerlukan satu penapis (filter) di antara anda dan buku anda. Penapis ini dapat menyingkirkan bahan-bahan yang tidak berkaitan dan menyampaikan bahan yang anda perlukan dengan segera. Proses penapisan ini dapat dicapai melalui Resipi 5S. |
| Resipi 5S = Scan, Skim, Select, Slurp, and Summarise. |
| SCAN | Start by scanning the whole text.
This means chapter heading, subtitle, illustrations, diagrams, and intruduction. After this you should be able to see the scope of it on a map in your head. Put it down on paper using spidergram.
Spidergram are good when you read because they allow you to put the topic in the middle and build the spidergram as you go, categorising and inserting key words/terms/labels as they leap out at you from the text. The words/labels/key terms which you enter into your map are what you train your eye to look for as you vacuum throught the text. They form the filter. |
| SKIM | You have alrealy scanned the whole text, and you will have
some idea of where the gold nuggets are ! Now skim the
text by vacuum reading it. This does not mean that you start at page one and try to read
it all as fast as you can. You learn to skim at different speeds. Slow skim the bits your scanning has already indicate might be important, and fast skim or glide over the padding. Skim the introduction, the first and last sentence of each paragraph and the conclusion so that you get the gist of the whole chapter fast. If anything looked particularly valuabe, go back to it and skim it again. |
| SELECT | This times as you vacuum at top speed, jot down page numbers, or mark important sections that seem to you to have something to say about the questions you are asking. |
| SLURP | Now work your way through the sections you have marked, and
noting down any main points. Slurp read, but not too slowly. If you are having difficulty understanding it, read it through twice instead. When you have finished slurping a paragraph or section, stop and cast eye over your map and key words. Did the information you noted answer any of the questions, contribute any facts, concepts to any of the sections or categories on your map ? |
| SUMMARISE | Finaly it is times to summerise
briefly what you have read. To do this you use the map, key terms, questions and the notes
you have made as you slurped. At most you spend an extra 10 minutes wrtiting a point form. You are doing this because you want to avoid reading the original material again, so when you revise this material at the end of the week and month, what you have written should be enough to trigger your memory. |
